Which Sunscreen Should I Use?
The one that you like best!
Try a tester at larger pharmacies and discover what feels the best for you.
- Ideally use an SPF 30 or greater.
- A lotion may be better on large surface areas like the body and limbs
- A tinted one may be better for your face
How much sunscreen do I need to use?
Use the teaspoon rule (for the average adult)
- 1 teaspoon: face, neck and ears
- 1 teaspoon: each arm (2 total)
- 1 teaspoon: each leg (2 total)
- 1 teaspoon: front of torso
- 1 teaspoon: back of torso
- Total: 7 teaspoons (35 mL)
A teaspoon is approximated by two finger lengths of sunscreen for each body area
- reapply at least every 2 hours while outdoors
- reapply after swimming, sweating, or towel-drying
Sunscreen alone is not enough
- Slip on shirt
- Slap on hat
- Slide on sunglasses
- Seek shade
Then book an appointment to have your skin checked.
