What is Skin Microneedling?
Skin microneedling (also called collagen induction therapy) is a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure that uses very fine, sterile needles to create tiny, controlled micro-injuries in the skin. These micro-injuries stimulate the body’s natural healing response, leading to increased collagen and elastin production, which helps improve skin texture and appearance.
What Does the Procedure Involve?
Preparation: The skin is cleansed thoroughly. A topical numbing cream is usually applied to minimise discomfort.
Treatment: A specialised microneedling device (pen or roller) is passed over the skin, creating controlled microchannels.
Duration: Typically 30–60 minutes depending on the area treated.
Post-treatment: A soothing serum or mask is applied. Patients are given aftercare instructions.
Microneedling can improve a range of skin concerns, including:
-
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Acne scars and surgical scars
- Improve the visible appearance of enlarged pores
- Uneven skin texture and tone
- Mild skin laxity
- Overall skin rejuvenation and brightness
- Improve the visible appearance of pigmentation conditions (dyschromia)
It also enhances the absorption of topical skincare products.
